to celebrate the 10th vinyl release on lossless music, soul intent delivers 4 cuts on dark and moody drum and bass as only he can. the title track “the tide” sees soul intent collaborate with label regular and dark vibe master paragon. “cypher” hails the first production outing from ben repertoire (from the repertoire label) who happens to also be lossless graphic designer and fellow lover of co-op pickle pork pies. also on the b-side is a solo effort from soul intent called “lose yourself” which demonstrates yet more of his love of that classic headz sound, turning heads whenever it’s played. pressing on solid blue, black, and clear mixed vinyl.

brother and sister eric and arrontette mcclinton had been recording for many years. around 1976 they did a 45 release together on honey records called -where you are- under the their christian names, although eric was spelled eryke! the single didn’t have much success but both brother and sister still went on to be amazing backing singers working for legendary producers mike theodore and dennis coffey. whilst they were under the watchful eye of the production team they recorded some material again and a duo for theo/coff in a bid to get them another record deal and show their capabilities. these songs never got releases. eric became and prolific song writer and also joined the group high fashion. we are super pleased to finally release the shelved songs from 1978. this in one of two releases by the duo.

over the years, phil mison has become the go-to selector for those looking for ibiza-themed compilations. none of his previous collections, though, have been quite as personal as out of the blue, a compilation inspired by his first spell behind the decks at the café del mar in 1993 – and the remarkable chain of events leading up to it.

blue note is pleased to announce the release of legendary nigerian drummer tony allens new ep, a tribute to art blakey and the jazz messengers. the 4 titles featured in the ep moanin, the drum thunder suite, night in tunisia, politely provide a preview of his forthcoming first album for blue note (currently scheduled for release in autumn 2017) on which tony allen pays tribute to his longstanding idol, american jazz drummer art blakey.the ep s four titles and the other tracks that make up the album were recorded over three days in paris at the midilive studios, the former facility of the vogue label. the sessions were done in live conditions that saw tony allen and his 8-piece band together in the same room, with the sound channelled through 12 separate mikes onto 2-tape via a sony mci-jh24 analogue multi-track recorder.

the secret initiative has been cloaked in secrecy since it’s inception in 2009.
over the past 8 years there has been a lot of speculation on who the artist(s) is/are behind this project. is it a collective of artists or a solo artist still remains to be answered. the secret initiative is a multi styled project ranging across the spectrum of acid techno, dub techno, hard techno & ebm mostly done in a 1990’s flavor but with a modern day punchy production sound. here on the latest release we have two peak time dance floor killers. “synesthete” a dark track-y techno climax-er with a whisper vocal sample repeating “i see the music, i hear the light” which builds into a monster of a track. on the flip side is the hard but hypnotic “return to mcmxc” which pays hommage to the 1990 frankfurt technoclub/dorian gray ebm techno sound.

over the past five years velvet season & the hearts of gold have laid down all manner of sizzling disco edit grooves that veer into spaced out, cosmic territory, but on this new joint for blue velvet they aim for the jugular with an abundance of cheeky licks from familiar sources. angel dust is set to get all manner of parties going wild with its classic hooks, while turn me on takes a smoother approach into romantic climes with equally recognisable sounds repurposed for the modern dancefloor. the samples may be easy to spot, but that just makes this records appeal even more universal.

up front and emotive tribal grooves feature on the next blue hour 12” as well as two ambient leaning works - forming a well balanced and mature sounding ep that nods towards the more string led/pad driven sound found on earlier releases in the series.

it’s difficult to describe the feeling when you know you’ve heard something that eclipses the mighty mr bird & greg blackman’s ramrock blue modern soul 12” classic ‘over again’ featuring the now legendary tom moulton remix. but many of you are going to experience that feeling and your feedback is going to reflect that moment when that single musical droplet of universal joyful harmony hits your hippocampus and you dissolve with happiness.

this is the fourth ep the paris legends dan ghenacia and chris carrier have made together over the last year, and it’s just as fresh as their previous efforts with plenty of bounce, depth and funk. first up on the a-side is ‘the blue grass’, a deeply sensual cut with a potent low end. therein lies the groove, which is utterly captivating – made to get you writhing with glee, this one is aimed straight at the hips. alongside that sleazy bassline we have jazzy notes, swinging percussion and otherworldly bleeps and chirps. all of which makes it a great intro to this sterling ep. on the flip side, we have ‘blue stick’, another ridiculously groovy riddim with warped voices floating above a set of crispy beats and a raw undercurrent of emotion. minimal in composition, and the effect is deadly. lastly, to close out the three-tracker, it’s ‘kind of blues’ (can you spot the theme here?!). when it starts off, this one is a stomper with a moody expression. the beats are hefty, the bass morose and the analogue effects strangely cosmic. more twisted vocals are filtered in the background, giving this one its weird hook. the vocal reveals itself in the breakdown midway through before the track bounds on to its finale. dan ghenacia and chris carrier deliver three firebombs, perfect dance floor material with tight grooves and killer production. would you expect anything less?! go get em…
